Angelo McCoy, 48, of the 7200 block of South Sawyer Avenue, is charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault, aggravated kidnapping, armed robbery and unlawful restraint.
On July 7, 2017, the Lyft driver picked up the 25 year old victim, who had too much to drink while out with friends in the River North neighborhood.
The victim fell asleep shortly after getting in the car and when she awoke and asked to get out of the car when realized she wasn’t headed in the direction of her home.
But instead, McCoy drove into an alley and refused to allow the victim to exit the vehicle. He got in the backseat with the woman and grabbed her by the throat and tied her hands behind her back with zip ties, prosecutors said.
After raping the woman and holding her captive for 2 hours, McCoy took her phone and driver’s license, prosecutors said. He demanded cash, too, but the victim said she didn’t have any. The victim escaped by jumping out of the car after McCoy was driving near Ashland and Belmont avenues about 1 a.m.
A driver behind McCoy’s car took the woman to a nearby police station.
Police arrested McCoy on July 19 and he is due back in court on August 9, 2017.
Ladies, don’t get so intoxicated that you are not aware of the people and the surroundings you’re in.
